removable braces

Removable braces are usually used to treat not serious malocclusions in children who still have milk teeth. They also prevent the patients from worsening of the developing or already existing malocclusions. The greatest advantage of the removable braces is their low price. In comparison to fixed braces, the price of removable braces is really insignificant.

How do removable braces work?

The sooner the braces are applied, the greater are the chances for an ideal occlusion and face shape in the future. In the case of children, the removable braces not only treats the already existing malocclusion but also prevent it from developing.

The removable braces are professionally referred to as functional appliances. Their aim is to stimulate the facial bones to develop in a right direction. This kind of treatment will provide enough space for the new (permanent) teeth, what will successfully prevent the crossbite. The removable braces stimulate also facial muscles and bones.

Removable braces: when to begin treatment?

It is hard to set the age, when it is advisable to wear dental braces. Their aim is to treat the existing malocclusion and to prevent it from a possible further development. Hence, one of the indications for the removable braces is breaking bad habits which may lead to (a development of) malocclusion, such as thumb sucking, mouth breathing, mouth breathing at night, etc ... .
The removable braces are a good choice for a child, who still have milk teeth and whose malocclusion is not serious. Sometimes an oral screen is enough to eliminate the malocclusion.

How long does the treatment take?

The durance of the treatment depends on the self-discipline of the patient. If the patient wears the braces for the prescribed amount of hours a day, the effects are visible earlier and the duration of treatment is maximally shortened. Usually, it is advisable to wear the braces for about a dozen or so hours every day - that is, at night plus a couple hours during the day. The treatment may last for a couple of weeks or even for many months.

Advantages and disadvantages of treatment with removable braces

An unquestionable advantage of the removable braces is the possibility of undergoing the treatment at a very young age. The treatment can begin even at the stage of milk teeth, what wouldn't be possible with the fixed braces.

In this way we can eliminate some jaw abnormalities in childhood, what will prevent them from tooth extraction in the future. It is scientifically proven that good effects are achieved in treating the functional and skeletal disorders. Another advantage of the removable braces is also their accessible price.

However, the greatest advantage of the these braces is the fact that you wear them only for a couple of hours a day. It is proven that wearing the braces only at night doesn't produce the desired effects.
